The Diocese of Bergamo, with a population of over 900 thousand inhabitants, 389 parishes and 1528 churches, is a civilly recognized ecclesiastical body. Patron of the Diocese is Sant'Alessandro Martire. H.E. Monsignor Francesco Beschi is the bishop of the Diocese. The vicariate deals with all pastoral initiatives concerning catechesis, the training of catechumens, the biblical apostolate, liturgy and sacred art, sacred music, missionary sensitivity, contacts and exchanges with missionaries, diocesan missions and alternative religious movements. Many personal services are supported by the Diocese through human promotion crporations, spirituality and hospitality structures, holiday homes, healthcare facilities and educational institutions.
The episcopal district recognizes and supports Christmas Design as an important cultural and educational event for the city and its citizens.
